Jacob Mackenzie was first introduced to the hospitality world as kitchen hand at just 14 years old. He was extended an apprenticeship offer from that job and decided to give it a try. Little did Jacob know that would mark the beginning of a career as an amazing chef.
During his three-year apprenticeship in Cairns, Jacob realised he had a knack for cooking. Fast forward 11 years and he has found himself at the age of 25 as the head chef at Mamasan Kitchen + Bar.
Jacob believes empathy, negotiation skills, and always putting other before himself are key factors to making a great head chef, which explains why he’s known for remaining level-headed in the midst of the kitchen’s hustle and bustle.
