NO NAME LANE’S ULTIMATE COFFEE GUIDE

If you’ve ever looked at a coffee menu and wondered what the difference between a latte and flat white is, then you’ve come to the right place. Australia has such a rich coffee culture and it’s never too difficult to find a delicious cup, however it can sometimes be hard to decide what type of coffee to order.

Both seasoned coffee drinkers and beginners can find it tricky to choose the right coffee order for them, so to help us navigate the wide world of coffee, we enlisted the help of the team at No Name Lane to tell us absolutely everything we need to know about our morning cup of joe!

Espresso

Also known as a short black, an espresso is just a single shot of coffee without any extra water added to it. This is quite an intense drink on its own and is also used to create all the other coffee types included in this guide!

Long black

A long black is made by pouring a double shot of espresso over hot water, unlike an Americano which is made my pouring hot water over an espresso. A long black tends to be less voluminous than an Americano, which gives it a stronger flavour and helps it retain a creamy texture.

Cappuccino

As one of the most popular coffee orders, you can identify a cappuccino by its foamy froth and light chocolate dusting. A cappuccino is one part espresso hot, one part textured milk and one part froth, making it the most layered out of all the coffee orders in our guide.

Latte

A latte is one part espresso, one part steamed milk, and one part foamed milk crema. So, it’s very similar to a cappuccino, except the fluffy froth is replaced with a subtle milky foam.

Flat white

An iconic Australian coffee order, the flat white was born right here in the land of Oz and is made by layering an espresso shot with steamed milk. A flat white isn’t topped with a foamed crema or a froth, which is how this type of coffee got its name.

This is also the most common order the team at No Name Lane receive each morning!

Mocha

Mochas are made in the same way as a latte, with one part espresso, one part steamed milk, and one part foamed milk crema, but chocolate is also added in to give the beverage a much sweeter taste.

Cold brew

Cold brew coffee is made by submerging coffee beans in cold water for an extended period. This creates a smooth and refreshing coffee that has a stronger taste.

Batch brew

If there’s one thing the team at No Name Lane wished more people knew about coffee, it’s just how delicious a batch brew can be. Apart from the usual coffees with espresso you can order, No Name Lane have a rotating batch brew that’s made with beans of different origins and is more full-bodied in flavour. Want to delve deeper into the world of coffee? A batch brew is a great place to start.
